Panca Dana for the first time in the UK
Lumbini Nepalese Buddha Dharma Society (UK) celebrated Panca Dana for the first time in the UK on Sunday, 31st August 2014 at Sri Saddhatissa International Buddhist Centre (Kingsbury Vihara), 309-311 Kingsbury Road, London, NW9 9PE. We were lucky to have six Sri Lankan and two Nepalese monks to receive Dana from devotees. We were inspired by the large number of devotees who attended the event and took opportunity to give Dana to Venerable monks. Panca Dana was followed by Dana offering (midday meal) to venerable monks, sharing of the meal and meditation.
The festival of Pañca Dana is celebrated annually in Kathmandu Valley in the month of August. With the success of our first Panca Dana celebration in the UK our society decided to hold the event annually as in Nepal on the last Sunday of August. Some photos of the events included.
